I finally have built up the courage to move out of the house and venture out into the world. Well, not all by myself, I have Jen there with me every step of the way. Moving from Alhambra to Brentwood is going to be lots of fun. Although I am going to dread the commute back up to Burbank everyday. Jen's family assures me that the travel up to Burbank for me will not be as difficult as I think it will be. It may be pleasant because most people are leaving the valley to LA, and I'm going the opposite.
Currently I'm on spring break. This means I get a bigger work load than normal for my studio classes (which all the classes I'm taking are studios) because I will have "more" time to do them. Sometimes I wonder if my professors remember what its like to be a student that goes to school and works all week. Ehh, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

I know I haven't posted for a while, but the projects I mentioned before are all done. So I've moved on to the next round of projects. I want to get some hosting up soon, but for now, I'll post smaller versions here. Please comment if you want.

Projects, projects, projects

I am so tired. Last semester i felt like i had all the time in the world. Of course i was switching from all nighters in architecture (or architourture) to flying by in graphic design. The work seemed so simple and easy. Not to toot my own horn, but i ROCKED it last semester. This semester also started that way, but all my instructors seemed to have a thing about starting off slow, and realizing projects have timelines. ugh. All my classes have piled up so I've been so stressed these past couple of weeks. All the projects seem to be due next week, when most of them were spread out enough to make thinks simple. That plus the fact that my disney project is due by the 28th, and my resume is due to them by this friday!!! I'm so tired and burnt out. Hope fully I'll get a good weekend rest next month and start fresh on the next projects.
I know this isn't a big load for me personally, but these last 3 weeks in february are killer. Even though I'm tired and burnt out, i still feel like I'm doing some awesome work. The disney project is sure to be a placing project. Our idea is so unique and we've tried developing it so that it seems as it could become a real project. And I have come to the realization that i love typography. I love letterforms and manipulating them. Type 2 has a project with a brochure design, i think i have it pretty dialed in, just few more tweaks and I'm good. The Identity and Branding project in GD2 is fun also. Creating a whole identity from scratch is so new to me that i find it really fun. We also get to dabble in package design a bit. Photography is somewhat review for me, but having direction in the taking of pictures makes me enjoy the end result more than when i did it on my own.

All in all I'm having a great time in graphic design, although i may seem anti-graphic at times, i know i will always come back around.

Wow... But mark my works there will be more, oh yes, there will be more. haha. ok well so far I've started 2nd year in Graphic Design. I'm kinda fast tracking through it cause i spent so long in architecture. So far the classes are great. Im so looking forward to what i can produce in photography, typography has become my new favorite field, and magazine layout and book layout seen fun. The Secret project thats on the right in my to do list, is almost done. It's being submitted at the end of Feb.
A friend of mine and I are entering a Disney Design Competition. We have created a kick ass project that hopefully can place within the top finalists. I will talk about it more later, in detaill and show mock ups, but for now, all I can say is that its going to be Legen...Dary!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://graphitecture.blogspot.com/2009/02/wow-long-time.html' title='Wow... We're so close to all the movie studios that it makes our campus a great filmimng location. Today one of my favorite shows came to town, The Office. It was so cool seeing them film here, even though it's probably going to be a 40 sec clip in the show, it's still exciting. I wanted to take a picture, but they yelled at me, so i had to put my camera away. :( It's always fun seeing celebs in real life. I mean they are normal people, but something about the fact they're on tv, makes it so much better. Today i saw John Krasinski (Jim) and Jenna Fisher (Pam), although I just missed Steve Carell (Michael). I've got to say that it's been fun. I like how fast the projects move, it's not like we work on one project for 5-6 weeks, its about 1 1/2 weeks per project now, and i like that pace. Currently I'm taking a typography course which has been fun. Color theory also has a quality to it that i appreciate, nice easy going projects. Graphic Design 1 is probably the most fun out of all of 'em all. The professor teaches it using all hand techniques, which produce great results, the kind of stuff that would take hours to make in photoshop.
The big draw this semester is a project that I'm doing with a good friend. This project would be huge for both me and my partner. It's actually a competition, but we were able to make it an independent study course for ourselves. More on the project to come.
For now I guess I'll be keeping steady, trying not to fall behind, and making sure i have time for myself and loved ones. We dont want a repeat of the architecture takeover (although i still dont have anything against it, i love it too).

Crazy 4 Cult 2!!!

I Know this is late, but hey, i just got time to post it. All the artwork was dome by artist interpreting their favorite cult classics. There are people you're cool with, and then there are friends. People that you feel comfortable with, people you don't mind hanging out with for a whole day and still do absolutely nothing. Celebrating Ice Cream Cake day, and National S'more day (next yr), and all other real and made up holidays. Going to (Angels) Baseball games, and staying for extra innings when others leave. Friends are what keeps my sanity after running my brain dead with architecture and graphic design. I feel lucky that i have such good ones, and although a small group, they're always there and always fun. My brother got me tickets for my birthday. It was one of the best shows I've been to lately. Nas, Mos Def, The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, everyone was great. Although it was hot, the show was awesome. Taking a break from the main stage, we went off to see the Cool Kidz, Tyga, and the Kids in the Hall. All in all it was a good time. Its actually pretty powerful. Although there is a bit of a learning curve, thats because it dosen't look like any of the other programs ive used (3dmax, rhino, cad, sketchup), but so far its been real fun. im looking forward to posting some of my renders once i get the program worked out. If you wanna try it out go get it, its free. www.blender.org also check out some of the cool things people have done with the program.

Spring....

This means BASEBALL!!!! My cousin is a pretty good artist, although her artistic efforts are cut short by her parents. She has recently been doing some Pin up girl art. It looks pretty darn good if you ask me. I think that if she went on to maybe digitize the sketches she might be able to get more out of it. So... I'm taking a shot at making her pieces of art, into really nice, editable line art. But i have recently come to realize that the direction that architecture was going in wasn't what i really had in mind. So.. i switched majors and am now a Graphic Design major. I know I have to start from the begging but I believe it's going to be worth it in the end.

I'm going to post up things from my new career path as well as my previous one. Architecture, Graphic Design and my hobby, photography. I'm hoping that this blog will be a catalyst for ideas, a place where i can post and get feed back. Also, this would be kinda therapeutic. So if your a reader of my blog from now on or not, welcome and i hope you liked something you will see.
